In the 14th course of our journey through “Anatomy from A to Z,” we explore the abdominal viscera.
This course includes a detailed exploration and dissection of the visceral membranes (pleura, peritoneum, fascia propria/extraperitoneal adipose, transversalis fascia), as well as structures such as the diaphragm, colon, greater and lesser omentum, appendix, small intestine, liver, gallbladder, stomach, duodenum, pancreas, and spleen. This course also explores abdominal space structures such as visceral adhesions, ligament of Treitz, the superior mesenteric artery, the portal vein, celiac trunk, vagus nerve, hepatic artery and vein, aorta and celiac plexus. Viscera are explored both in-situ for context as well as ex-situ for detail and comparison.
Through this experience, participants will gain a rich and deep understanding of the continuities, connections, and relationships between these named structures and their surrounding tissues, including bony landmarks, fasciae, and visceral elements. Structures will also be compared ex-situ to provide an appreciation for the diversity and range of anatomical expression. Through cultivating a greater appreciation of the human form, participants will be better able to apply their anatomical knowledge to their bodywork and movement practices.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
