Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Differentiate the textures and properties of superficial fascia, perifascia, and deep fascia,
  • Describe how perifascia acts as an agent for differential movement in the body,
  • Describe three ways in which we may come into closer connection and relationship with the textural layers of our bodies,
  • Describe how the heart is a whole body organ,
  • Describe the limitations of the model of the heart as a pump, and the implications of describing the heart as a center where the “blood refreshes its movement,”
  • Explain how arterial disease be an adaptive strategy to the limitations in the natural movement of the blood,
  • Identify the structures contained within and surrounding the mediastinum,
  • Accurately order the layers surrounding the heart, from superficial to deep,
  • Identify the slippery substance that gives rise to differential movement in the thoracic visceral space,
  • Identify the vessels that lead from the aorta,
  • Describe the layering of the abdominal wall and identify which fascial layers contribute to the anterior and posterior rectus sheath,
